Hello and welcome to The Cabinet. The Cabinet is the start of what I hope to be a beautiful career for me and my family. My Name is Alexis, and I was a military brat raised mainly in Indiana and California. I fell in love with food at a very young age and never stopped. A little after I graduated high school, I joined the military as a Military Police officer and spent my whole career on the beautiful island of Oahu, HI. While in Hawaii I was able to eat so many fresh foods and gained a whole new love for food, this is when I decided to make my passion a lifelong career. After 7 years, I got out of the military and I moved to Denver, CO to live out my dreams of becoming a chef. Upon arriving in 2019 I pursued any great job that involved great food, but my goal was to be involved in anything farm to table. My grandmother had a small garden that really inspired me to have a garden of my own. After Covid passed, I volunteered at a local farm, Frontline Farms and ended up a year later becoming an apprentice. There I nurtured a relationship with food like I never imagined, I got the opportunity to spend one season on the farm. I never knew how healing the land was. I absolutely think we all deserve to experience food straight from the soil. From here I was able to become part of my very first farm to table experience. Frontline gave me the opportunity to feed their farmers twice a month, with the food they have grown, and was a featured chef in their most recent farm to table dinner. My dreams continue to come true, as I cook with love and integrity.
I am now a personal Chef for “Dinner Elf”, where community members can book me to come to their home and prepare meals for the week. Here I am learning so much about the community and more about the foods that we all love. I am still working as a prep chef in the city, with goals to one day be fully independent on my delicious food.
Soon, I plan to launch a food truck concept that is based off so many things that I have learned on my food journey, food that comes from my heart, my soul food. Growing up my father loved to grill, and that love seeped on over to me. I love to use the grill for meats, vegetables, and sometimes fruits. Working with heat in this way I think is so beautiful combined with fresh vegetables off the farm. My goal is to deliver delicious food packed with flavor and nutrition. This menu is secret for the moment as I save and raise money to make this concept become a reality.
